From the time-vault, a great article/sermon from Dr. Thom Schreiner.

I had once heard preacher rail against being so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good. To that we get:

“We will be of more earthly good if we are heavenly minded.” —Thomas R. Schreiner

(1) We need to look to what we cannot see. 2 Corinthians 5:1-5. Paul compares our current bodies to tents—temporary, fragile, and prone to decay. But the resurrection body to come is like a house—eternal and secure.

(2) We should be confident about our future. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8. Discouragement often creeps in when we lose sight of our destination. But Paul reminds us: we are heading home, and God will get us there.

(3) Please the Lord in everything. 2 Corinthians 5:9-10. This is not a call to perfectionism or fear—it’s a call to live purposefully, knowing our lives will be assessed. Good works don’t earn salvation, but they reveal true faith. They are the evidence that we belong to Christ, that we’ve been born again and walk by the Spirit.
